Terms of use
Effective October 20, 2026
By using Know Your Daycare you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What the site is
Know Your Daycare is an independent project that republishes and organizes public child care records from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). It is not a government website and is not affiliated with the State of Texas or with any daycare.
Information only
- The site reports what the state recorded. It does not give any daycare a score, grade, star rating, or ranking, and does not endorse or recommend any daycare. It shows some numbers for context — such as violations per routine inspection and how a daycare compares with the Houston median — not as a verdict, and nothing on it is a statement that a daycare is safe or unsafe.
- Plain-English rule summaries are our own explanation of the state’s rules. Where a summary and the rule differ, the rule governs.
- A citation is the state’s finding at a point in time. It may have been corrected, and a daycare’s current practices may differ.
- Nothing on the site is legal, medical, or professional advice. Choosing child care is your decision; visit in person and ask questions.
Accuracy
We take care to reproduce the state’s records accurately and explain our process on How we check the data. Records can still be incomplete, out of date, or wrong at the source, and we may make mistakes. A daycare’s status may have changed since the pull date shown on its page. The official record is the one on Search Texas Child Care; check it before relying on anything here. If you find an error, please tell us.
Disclaimer
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its content.
Permitted use
- Know Your Daycare is not a consumer reporting agency, and nothing on this site is a consumer report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Do not use it to decide whether to hire or keep anyone — including a nanny, babysitter, or caregiver — or for tenant screening, credit, insurance, or any other purpose the FCRA covers.
- The site covers daycares regulated by Texas. It says nothing about nannies, babysitters, or unlicensed caregivers, who are not in these records. If a name on this site matches someone you are considering hiring, do not assume it is the same person.
- Do not use the site to harass, threaten, or intimidate anyone.
Reusing content
- The underlying state data is in the public domain (CC0) and you can get it from the Texas Open Data Portal.
- Our own text, plain-English summaries and page design may be quoted briefly with a link back to the page. Please do not copy the site wholesale or in bulk, and do not access it in a way that burdens it.

Links to other websites, including state websites, are for convenience. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.
Changes
We may update these terms. The effective date above shows when they last changed; continued use of the site means you accept the current version.
