About Know Your Daycare
Know Your Daycare is an independent project. It takes the inspection records Texas already publishes about every regulated daycare and lays them out so a parent can read them in a few minutes. It is not run by, funded by, or affiliated with the State of Texas or any daycare.
Why we built it
The state’s records are thorough: every inspection, every rule a daycare was cited under, the inspector’s notes, and when the problem was fixed. But they are spread across visits, written in rule numbers, and hard to compare. A parent looking at a record usually wants three answers — how often, how serious, and whether it keeps happening — and the official site leaves you to work them out. We count them for you, explain each rule in plain English, and show the questions worth asking on a tour.
What we cover
For now, all 1,468 state-regulated daycares with a Houston address, including home daycares. The records shown here were pulled on Oct 20, 2026 and cover the five years before that date.
How we keep it accurate
We use the state’s published data files, not scraped or second-hand copies. Every update is checked for missing or mislinked records, and our counts are compared with the state’s own totals for each daycare — in the current pull, 1,468 of 1,468 matched exactly. The details, including what we filter out and why, are on How we check the data.
What we do not do
- We do not give any daycare a score, grade, or rating, or call any of them safe or unsafe. We report what the state recorded, with a few numbers for context.
- We do not publish reviews, and daycares cannot pay to be listed, ranked, or removed.
- We do not show a home daycare’s street address or phone number, or the names of directors or staff at any daycare. A home daycare’s operation name is shown as the state registers it, which is often the caregiver’s own name.
- We do not collect personal information about visitors; see the privacy policy.
